When accidents happen, Saflex® interlayer provides passive protection

Laminated glass made with Saflex interlayer provide protection from flying glass

Laminated glass made with Saflex interlayer can provide occupant protection in case of an accident. Saflex interlayer is permanently bonded together between two pieces of glass under heat and pressure. Upon impact, the glass may crack but it tends to adhere to the interlayer, allowing side and rear windows to provide performance similar to that of the windscreen.

Protection from Flying Glass Pellets

Standard tempered glass windows are designed to provide improved impact resistance and to break in a manner that eliminates the formation of large dangerous shards of glass. Tempered glass shatters into thousands of pellets when impacted. Laminated glass made with Saflex interlayer will provide protection from flying glass throughout the vehicle, when used in side windows, rear windows and roofs, since the glass tends to adhere to the interlayer when impacted.

Protection from the Elements

When a standard tempered glass window breaks, it leaves a large opening, providing no protection from the weather or outside objects. However, when laminated glass made with Saflex interlayer is broken, the glass tends to stay in the frame, held in place by the interlayer, protecting occupants from these objects and the interior of the car from the weather.

Convenience

Because the glass tends to adhere to the interlayer when impacted, laminated glass can be replaced at a time that is convenient for the vehicle owner, rather than requiring the immediate replacement associated with tempered glass breakage.

In addition to occupant protection, laminated glass made with Saflex interlayer also provides:
